How to cut a granite slab?
I have s slab of 1" thick granite which is about 3' wide by 5' long and I need to cut about a foot off the length. The options I am considering is using an angle grinder with a diamond blade or a circular saw with a diamond blade. I want to cut it dry because I am nervous using water with a power tool. What is the easiest way to cut it? Can you give me any directions. Thanksthank you all for your answers. i was thinking of getting it cut professionally but i have the " insane" gene so i would really like to try it myself. thanks again
Gluing or using mortar for laying granite tiles on countertop?
I am in the process of using granite tiles for a counter top. I am using 2 layers of 3 4 " plywood under the granite but was wondering if I should be using a glue under the granite instead of the thin set mortar. Is there a special glue to use or can I just use the carpenter glue on top of plywood. I was thinking that if I used mortar it may dry out over time if warm items are placed on countertop.

Removing etched stain and hard water stains from granite vanity top?
I have installed a black granite vanity top in one of my bathrooms. My kids use it primarily teens . They don't wipe up water after washig like they should so I am getting water stains aroung the water handles and where the backsplash meets the top. I also have a 4cm white mark that that looks like it is etched into the top ? Standard granite " cleaners" are of no use. Any suggestions?? I'm afraid to use lime removers or abrasives....

Is a 4" Granite backsplash necessary if you are planning to tile the backsplash?
We are remodeling our kitchen and are installing a granite countertop. We've picked out a great tile to go with it and plan to tile the entire backsplash. Our granite guy is insisting that we go with a 4" granite backsplash and then tile above that. I think he's just insisting that to sell more granite.What is normal? All of the backsplash being tile or a 4" granite piece and then the tile backsplash? My initial preference is to tile only, but I want to be sure that there is no reason that the 4" granite piece is there as well and since I know my granite guy only wants to sell more granite, I would like to hear other opinions....
How to Best Brace or Support Granite counter/bar?
My scenario is a bit different than the typical bar having an unsupported granite countertop. I have cabinets on the left and right sides of a knee wall. The knee wall has a 3" x4" x 5' board braced on it. The 3 CMM granite counter will lay on all three cabinets and knee wall board. Coming out from the 5' long knee wall will be 17 inches of granite. What should I use to support this and ensure the granite does not flex? I have thought of the following A 1 2" or 1 4" steel plate under the granite, two 1 4" steel support brackets on the knee wall, or use both? please advise.
Granite tiles on counter top?
I realize the preferred method is to use at least 1 8 spacing for the groat but I was wondering if I could butt them up with no spacing and use a good silicon on the edge. Then where there is a very slight bevel at the top edge, use the grout there and seal it very well. I would of course seal the granite tiles first. The reason I want to do this is because the carpenter left the counter top exactly 24" instead of 24 3 8 like I had asked him to do for width. I will have to cut 3 8 off each tile to allow for the grout if I cannot put them together like I mentioned above. Thanks in advance.
